cars jostling cars, four adjacent cars on a three-lane highway, horns blaring in the air. are people really that eager to visit relatives they bother to see only once a year, that eager to sit around making small talk, that eager to answer endless questions about exams and school? if not even for chinese new year, would relatives still be in contact with other? would the only time you get a phone call from them be to persuade you that you need insurance? distance is really just an excuse for being distant.

that said, i really enjoyed catching up with my cousins and niece. yesterday my brother and i were at my er yi's house, and we(cousins and us) sat around surfing notorious blogs (pick of the day: twochineseboys.blogspot.com) before catching the midnight screening of "fearless". today there was a mega gathering at da yi's house, so everyone was playing with little chloe, eating kfc and pizza, watching some totally nonsensical taiwanese variety show(like, which ones aren't?), and playing with bernice and beathrice's PSP. will you please believe they have one each?! kids these days. then everyone took her highness princess chloe to the playground. she yelled "hello! what you doing?" to everyone. sheesh. and she can't speak a word of chinese hahahahaha.

i wish school could be postponed to a decade later.
